SATURDAY, APRIL 19, 2008 -

The United States Field Hockey Women's National Team defeated Belgium, 3-2, in the first game of Olympic Qualifiers in Kazan, Russia. Carrie Lingo, Jesse Gey, and Angie Loy each scored for the United States.
HERE is the (approximate) location of Kazan Field Hockey Stadium. You will have to zoom out for a better idea of where it is situated. The stadium itself is not pictured, as these photos look pretty old - the giant dirt road off to the north is actually a major eight-lane thoroughfare now.

The team ran through drills and practice matches this morning. Today was the final day of on-field preperation for the team - the tournament kicks off Saturday at 11:00 AM as the US faces Belgium. |

The Olympic Qualifiers are a big event for the city of Kazan. Television commercials featuring the tournament mascot - "Mysh" the Mouse - are running on local television and on the scoreboard at the stadium. An enormous billboard highlighting the qualifiers is displayed prominently at the airport. |
